There is a spectrum of opinions on how important preparation is in life. Those whose motto is “ignorance is bliss” travel life’s journey seeking out only what is necessary to navigate the day. Others, who operate on a, “what you don’t know can kill you” premise, spend their resources preparing for unseen threats. Followers of Christ function differently, secure in the knowledge they are rescued and sealed for eternity, while understanding they are commissioned to carry God’s message of hope into a hostile world, living as children of God and citizens of His kingdom on Earth.
When Jesus told the parable of the mustard seed, He was giving His disciples a perspective on how to proceed in their faith journey, knowing adversity was ahead. In imagery still relevant today, you too can benefit from the message that, despite the limitations of your knowledge or resources, even if your faith is as small and humble and tiny as a little seed, the offerings you bring, when placed in God’s mighty hand, will be sufficient to accomplish His will.
The disciples were seen as a rag-tag group, uneducated and underfunded. However, that did not change their assignment! Jesus’ commission to them is yours as well. Let them be your example and allow the Spirit of the Lord to lead you to use what He has provided today to do God’s good work on Earth!
