Wise... Or Otherwise

We girls, wives, and mothers need wisdom! Making decisions about friends, hobbies, marriage, careers, school, money, you name it, we need God's wisdom to discern in matters great and small...to see what isn't always apparent.

When faced with obvious difficulties and dangers we'll certainly cry out to God for his help. So we should, prone to succumb to fear and worry...our weakness and limitations drive us to our knees.

But in some situations, when we feel confident to "handle things", we fail to ask God for wisdom. After all most of us have human resources we can rely upon.

But Joshua 9 serves as a reminder to us. After the Israelite's victories over the cities of Jericho and Ai, they were approached by men who wanted to make a peace agreement with them. They knew better. The Lord had given specific instructions not to get into any agreement with foreigners. But because these men appeared to have come from a very far country it seemed safe enough. They "failed to inquire of the Lord", made a huge mistake, and made a treaty with them.

We, like the Children of Israel, may have the courage to withstand an obvious enemy attack, but do we have the sense to detect deception? Things may not be as innocent as they appear.

Do you live each day in humble dependence on God to be a wise woman? Failure to inquire of the Lord has led so many to make disastrous choices. As James asks his flock in 3:13 I am asking, who is wise and understanding among you?

NO ONE is wise enough in themselves to live and choose correctly. Only the girl who knows she needs God's help...in everything. How do we safeguard ourselves and our families?

We must humbly seek God, search the Scriptures, and ask for the wisdom he has graciously promised to give.

(Joshua 9, James 1:5, 3:13)
