When the Father gave His only Son

Who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.

Titus 2:14

There is a story about a boy who built his own toy boat. He painted it in his favorite colors. He enjoyed sailing it in the creek. But one day after a rain, the creek flooded and took away his boat. Sometime later, he saw it in a yard sale. He emptied his piggy bank and had enough money to pay for the boat. He said, “You were mine once, and I bought you back.” When the Father gave His only Son, He redeemed or bought back, those who believe.

There are some days you may feel like a failure, unworthy, unable to do anything right. Turn your eyes from the things that cause those feelings and onto the fact that God valued you enough to pay the price of His Son. He bought you back from the devil’s schemes and fit you into His purpose and plans for good.

The second half of today’s verse says He has purified a people who are eager to do good. What good are you eager to do today? Whatever it is, do it as unto the Lord.

The things you do each day may seem trivial, but are the very places you can see God’s fingerprints. Thank Him for the good He has called you to do. And when you botch things up, as all humans do, thank Him for helping you make things right.
