Walking In The Light

Walk as children of light. Ephesian 5:8

The very nature of God is light. At the dawn of creation, hovering over darkness, God spoke the words that started the human story, “Let there be light” (Genesis 1:3). From that moment forward, the light became the symbol of life and blessing, emanating from the Creator to His creation.

The prophet Isaiah, summarizing the human journey, said, “The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light; those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness, on them has light shone” (Isaiah 9:2). Every living person resides under God’s gracious light, the question for each soul is how to respond to it!

Some people love God’s light, allowing it to define and direct their journey, “For you have delivered my soul from death, yes, my feet from falling, that I may walk before God” (Psalm 56:13). Others find His light distressing, those “who forsake the paths of uprightness to walk in the ways of darkness, rejoicing in doing evil and delighting in perverseness” (Proverbs 2:13-14).

God has been progressively illuminating Himself in greater detail throughout history culminating in the revelation of His Son as the pathway to fellowship with Him. “Jesus spoke to them, saying, I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness but will have the light of life” (John 8:12).

Pray for America to be drawn to God’s light, finding the revelation in His Son Jesus Christ, and the courage to live and work in that knowledge of Him.
