A fool gives full vent to his spirit, but a wise man quietly holds it back. – Proverbs 29:11
Some people have opinions about everything and insist on telling you all they know about a subject without stopping to listen to anyone else’s perspective. It is that type of person who will angrily share every thought without considering what they are saying or who they hurt along the way.
The words of a foolish person can foment conflict and even incite others to anger, which could result in violence.
A wise person understands that what he knows about something may not necessarily be pertinent at a given time.
Some things are better left unsaid or said later, at a time when tempers and emotions are not running high.
“A soft answer turns away wrath” (Proverbs 15:1).
Peter wrote about this divine nature in his second letter, possibly while he was imprisoned in Rome. He encourages the new believers to realize that the grace and peace given to them through Christ can transform their lives. The grace of God will empower them to live righteously in the face of opposition.
Peter had drawn the sword in the Garden of Gethsemane, but he was the one who spoke to the crowd on the day of Pentecost with wisdom and a transformed spirit. He had learned self-control. His faith had been tested, and he always spoke of the blood-bought salvation of the Lord Jesus Christ.
Good news! If you have accepted Jesus as your Savior, the Holy Spirit lives in you and gives you His power to respond to circumstances in a godly way.
