The Word in Song

Sing to him; sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works!

1 Chronicle 16:9

It is not possible to overemphasize giving gratitude to God. Considering who He is and what He has done, He is worthy of all the praise that His people can muster. Worship leader and songwriter Justin Tweito cites seven benefits of singing Scripture-filled songs: building a foundation on the Word of God and Jesus, teaching and retaining what is learned, Scripture memorization, honoring who He is and what He has done, rejoicing and delighting in His Word, unity in diversity of worshippers, and evangelism as the gospel of Christ is shared through song.

The first part of the verse focuses on singing to God. It is important to sing about God, but singing to Him with thanksgiving is a deeper act of personal worship. It is that one-on-one connection that Jesus came to establish. Believers in Christ come together as a whole to worship because of their individual commitment to the Lord.

In your prayer time today, try singing your praises to Him. Thank Him for what He has done for you personally in song. Sing His word to Him, pre-made tunes or ones you create yourself.
