THE LORD IS MY HELPER

We can confidently say, ‘The Lord is my helper; I will not fear; what can man do to me?’ – Hebrews 13:6

“What can man do to me?” When news reports show people doing terrible things to others, it may make you wonder if you can count on God to protect you. Imagine chicks running to a mother hen in a storm. Under her wings, they stay safe and dry. But if one chick stays out to play in the puddles, it will not have the mother hen’s protection.

In this world, believers must run under God’s wings for protection. “He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge” (Psalm 91:4). There are ways you can run to His shelter. Praise Him for His protection and for His guardian angels about you. Worship Him and seek His wisdom and direction in making decisions that will lead you to safety and away from danger. Live a life of obedience to the Lord. Disobedience can keep you out of God's protection like the little chick who wants to play in puddles.

Meditate on His word. Many scriptures promise God’s protection and describe Him as the rock and fortress to run to. Solomon said, “Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain” (Psalm 127:1). In the “faith chapter” of Hebrews, believers not only escaped adversity, but they were also able to face martyrdom, knowing that, eternally speaking, death is just the beginning (Hebrews 11).

When you build your faith in God as your protector and live a life that pleases Him, you can confidently say, “The Lord is my helper, what can man do to me?”
