The great 4th century Church Father, Athanasius once said:
“The Psalms have a unique place in the Bible because [whereas] most of Scripture speaks to us, the Psalms speak for us.”
Scripture speaks to us but the Psalms speak for us
No spiritual discipline is more important than the intake of God’s Word. Nothing can substitute for it. There simply is no healthy Christian life apart from a diet of the milk and meat of Scripture.
~Donald S. Whitney~
As you spend time reading your Bible, you will recognize the voice of God speaking to your own heart through the Scriptures. The Lord will lead, guide, and give you wisdom for your life.

The difference between listening to a radio sermon and going to church...is almost like the difference between calling your girl on the phone and spending an evening with her.
~Dwight L. Moody~
“Joy is the serious business of heaven,” wrote
C.S. Lewis.
In his book Jesus Man of Joy, Sherwood Wirt celebrated joy this way: “Joy is more than…earthly pleasure, more than what we call happiness. Joy is the enjoyment of God and the good things that come from the hand of God… For many, pleasure and happiness are but fleeting experiences. But joy! Now we move into a different dimension…Joy is not happiness, it is the joy of salvation, the exultation of God’s Spirit in men and women, ‘good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over.’ Joy becomes the ecstasy of eternity in a soul that has made peace with God.”
Joy is not mere happiness. Joy is often accompanied by a recognition of the lack of joy in the world and the haunting notion that we are but passing through, pressing toward something greater than ourselves. Joy gives us the ability to delight in life and the strength to carry on, even in hardship.
Have faith in the struggle. Whatever it is that you are going through, keep your eyes on the Promise-Giver. What He allows may be confusing at times, but He is with you and for you. Wait for His promises.
Leadership is taking responsibility while others are making excuses.
~John C. Maxwell~
Excuses are never beneficial. It is far better, to be honest with people and just own up to what you have done wrong. It is nobler to take the blame than to offer lame excuses for your failures. Do not make procrastination a habit. Why not take the time to do what was asked of you? Obedience––so simple. Know this, God does not accept our excuses; He expects our obedience.
“The Christian has a deep, silent, hidden peace, which the world sees not, like some well in a retired and shady place…What he is when left to himself and to his God, that is his true life.” —John Henry Newman
God will speak to the hearts of those who prepare themselves to hear; and conversely, those who do not so prepare themselves will hear nothing even though the Word of God is falling upon their outer ears every Sunday.
~A. W. Tozer~
Believers are to be holy, set apart for God. Knowing this, consider your ways, and carefully listen to and obey all God is telling you to do.

Take the time, like Jesus did, to get to know individual people and their stories. Be salt, sprinkled everywhere, inspired, and empowered by the Holy Spirit to show the love of Jesus to the world.

Charles Spurgeon
My trust is not that I am holy, but that being unholy, he is my righteousness.

"I always feel it well to put a few words of prayer between everything I do."

"Our life seems at times to run all into puffballs and bloated fungi of self-glorying, we think that we are something when we are nothing, and then the Lord prunes us back to our real condition." - Charles Spurgeon
We must cease to be sensitive about self. –

“People don’t get saved because you’re nice to them. Nobody has ever gotten saved in the history of the Christian church because you’re nice to them. People get saved because of the proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ.” -
Jeff Durbin
"I would rather be nobody at Christ's feet than everybody anywhere else."
Charles Spurgeon
If you marry an unbeliever, you have the Devil as your father-in-law. -

This love of Christ is also exceedingly sweet and satisfying in its greatness of it; it is a dying love; such love as never was before seen, and such as no other can parallel.
Jonathan Edwards
Is it not irrational to gratify an enemy? In sin, we do so.
"God is dearest when goods are fewest. Heaven is warmest when the earth is coldest." —
Charles Spurgeon
Low expectations of God reveal a blind pessimism about the power of God’s work. We sometimes raise our expectations to insist upon—even demand—complete divine healing or the perfect job. Other times, we lower our expectations closer to those of atheists.

The holiness of God is beautiful to believers, but a terror to the unbelievers.
