"The remarkable thing about fearing God is that when you fear God, you fear nothing else, whereas if you do not fear God, you fear everything else."— Oswald Chambers
there is the absolute certainty of all the promises of God being fulfilled. Our present verses explain the basis of this certainty. The assurance is related to the very nature of Jesus Christ.
Those who live by humble faith enter into the fullness of God's provisions of grace. "God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble…we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand"
Throughout the Old Testament, we can find examples of people living by the grace of God. They may not have been able to describe their experience in terms of grace. Yet, their reliance upon God to work on their behalf was just as valid as ours. Living by grace is about God at work in people's lives.
A PUBLIC MINISTRY WILL NOT HEAL YOU FROM PRIVATE MISERY. FOCUS LESS ON ELEVATING PLATFORMS, AND MORE ON ALLEVIATING YOUR PAIN.
WHEN YOU DON'T RESPOND TO YOUR ENEMIES, YOU GIVE GOD PERMISSION TO SPEAK ON YOUR BEHALF.
We can’t sting the world’s conscience if we go against our own. We cannot stimulate spiritual thirst in others if we have lost our own. And God cannot use us to stop the corruption of sin in others if sin has corrupted us. Greg Laurie
A Christian should have flavor—zest, zing, edge. Christians aren’t supposed to be bland. They aren’t supposed to go along with everything. They are to be salt, stopping the spread of evil and stimulating the thirst for Christ in others. They are there to make a difference. Greg Laurie
“Sometimes we don't need another chance to express how we feel or to ask someone to understand our situation. Sometimes we just need a firm kick in the pants. An unsmiling expectation that if we mean all these wonderful things we talk about and sing about, then let’s see something to prove it.” --Dietrich Bonhoeffer
Greed is the ruthless belief that everything, including other people, exists for one’s personal pleasure and purpose. Greed turns our desires into obsessions and idols, which we worship for what they can do for us.
It is hard to conquer our flesh. That’s why Paul used such a violent metaphor. To shed the scales of our lower natures requires resistance and the sacrifice of effort. We live in a soft society, but the Lord wants us to be spiritually healthy and strong, which requires stretching and straining.
If someone who claims to be a Christian is living a lifestyle contrary to what the gospel teaches and what the Bible says, they would do other Christians a big favor if they just didn’t talk about Jesus.
The world needs authenticity today. And before we can effectively tell others about Christ, we must first live it.
True rest always involves surrendering to God.
Tomorrow can wait. Tonight we need to sleep. Especially if last night (or the last few nights) have been spent tossing and turning with stress and worry. Tonight, let’s give it to the Lord and remember that we can trust in our good God to take care of us and never let us go.
Repentance and forgiveness are daily disciplines in our lives, a continual release of resentment, anxiety, and anger, allowing us to receive forgiveness and grant the same grace to others.
We are given a ministry of “reconciliation.” It is a lifetime of being transformed, renewed, and yes, reconciled to God, and to others.
Much of this transformation takes place in the healing of our minds: “And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God” (Romans 12:2)
Some churches have become a little too preoccupied with being the cook, and they’ve forgotten how important it is to confront people with the claims of Jesus Christ. Sometimes we have the delivery system in place, but we don’t have the message to deliver. And sometimes in our attempts to cross over, we fail to bring the cross over.
When we share the message of the gospel, it will be a fragrant perfume to some. But to others, it will be offensive and repulsive. Some people will respond favorably. And others will respond unfavorably. But we still need to share the message. We still need to use every means possible to get the gospel out to as many people as we can.
God is with you in your suffering. He has woven His breath through every moment of our lives, even the most painful and frightening. He may not remove the pain, but we can still trust Him. Let's pray today for His will to be done in everything.
Don’t be afraid. So easy to say; so not easy to do.
Fear is serious business. God takes it seriously and so should we. God tells us again and again in His Word not to be afraid and yet we still let fear in the door! Today, let’s kick him out and remember that God is in control and He loves us! ~
As Christians, we might be tempted to withdraw to our own subculture. But that is not what we’re supposed to do. The objective of believers is not to isolate but to infiltrate. It is not to evade but to invade.
The Bible clearly teaches that our culture will grow darker. It isn’t going to get better; it’s going to get worse. Even though humanity has increased in scientific, medical, historical, educational, psychological, and technological knowledge to an astounding degree, we have not changed our basic nature.
Go to your heavenly Father with any problem or need, without fear.
What if we thought of praying as banging on the door of Heaven? What if we expected Jesus to answer and give us what we need and what is good and right? How would that change our prayer lives?
We want to make Jesus Christ our focus—not a person, not a pastor, and not a church. The Bible tells us, “For no one can lay any foundation other than the one we already have—Jesus Christ” (1 Corinthians 3:11 NLT).
No believer is ever left to suffer alone. Christ is always present.
Are you suffering right now for Jesus? If so, then you are in great company! It’s no surprise for Christians to go through terrible troubles and trials. We should expect them and prepare for them. When we do, we can know that Jesus is worth it!
