Man's Way or God's Way

By this is love perfected with us, so that we may have confidence for the day of judgment, because as he is so also are we in this world. – 1 John 4:17

The court system is filled with cases in which judges will decide for or against the accused. Some may be judged incorrectly, or punishment might not be proportionate to the crime. However, in God’s system of judgment, this cannot happen.

There is a hymn in which one line says, “I lay my sins on Jesus.” However, you cannot do that! Your sins were already borne by the One who died on the cross for you. Judgment was pronounced, and Christ Jesus paid the price for your sins. His perfect love for you was on display. Therefore, you should no longer live for yourself, but for Him who died for you. Casting your faith on Him, you will become a new person in Christ (Colossians 3:9-10).

Faith does not eliminate sinful human nature, but it does give you the freedom to know His love for you and learn to be more Christlike as you live each day. “Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God” (1 John 4:15). In all this, you may “have confidence for the day of judgment” (v. 17), for you will stand washed clean in Christ. His love has washed over you, and He lives within you… His love within will enable you to love those around you.

Intercede today for those who do not know the Savior to embrace the love of God in saving faith. Give thanks for God’s faithfulness and love for you. Abide in Him. He will keep you secure – no court can change that!
