LOOK TO GOD OUR LORD

Our eyes look to the Lord our God, til he has mercy upon us. – Psalm 123:2

Those who work as servants learn to keep their eyes on their master or mistress. The master may not utter a word, but a glance of his eyes or a turning of his hand will give the servant directions to follow. The servant is aware of what the master wishes and responds accordingly.

The eyes of believers should always be in the direction of the Master, be it admiring the works of His hands in creation or indicating your dependence on Him as you ask for mercy in a situation or help in a trial. Looking up to the One enthroned in the heavens shows your love and devotion to Him, your willingness to align your desires with His desires for you.

His guidance may come later than your wish, sometimes answers are delayed. Be encouraged.

One commentator wrote that “the lifting up the eyes implies faith and confident persuasion that God is ready and willing to help us. The very lifting up of the bodily eyes towards heaven is an expression of this inward trust… The uplifted eyes naturally and instinctively represent the state of heart which fixes desire, hope, confidence, and expectation upon the Lord.”

Look to God in heaven, giving praise for every blessing. It is the humble, believing heart, the servant heart that seeks to do the will of the Father, that recognizes the weariness of this earth and knows his hopes and desires will be fulfilled by God above.
