“Kids these days.” It’s easy to pick on young people, and how they act.
However, kids haven’t changed. Parents have changed. Kids have always pushed boundaries. Kids have always questioned authority. Kids have always been mainly about themselves.
Kids haven’t changed, parents have.
Today, parents are now trying to be friends, instead of leaders. Parents are intimated of their own children. In a sense, it’s the kids who have become the authority of their homes.
We’ve allowed for our proverbial lives to be built around our kids. They become the center of our Universe. Or, worse we live in the opposite extreme where we’re not involved at all, or we’re mentally and emotionally checked out.
We allow phones, screens, culture, social media, and celebrity influencers to disciple and parent our kids.
Then, when they’re defiant, spoiled, and out of control… We tend to blame the teachers, coaches, churches, etc. for what we have allowed to take place in our own homes for years.
Parents, it’s time to lead your homes and take ownership of your God-given role seriously. You’re the only one that can be their parent.
It’s time for parents to change for the better, so our kids can change too.
