God and His Righteousness First

Seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. – Matthew 6:33

What does Jesus say about your financial worries? Look at the birds and the flowers (Matthew 6:26-28). That does not seem like top financial advice, but He makes a point. God, who cares for the smallest things, will indeed care for you. In today’s verse, Jesus says, “Seek God’s Kingdom first.” A kingdom is a realm where a king rules. Jesus gives a rock-solid promise: if you turn control of your life over to God, He will meet your needs.

Those who live in Christ realize the spiritual realm holds more weight and importance than the physical one. The apostle Paul says, “Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God” (Colossians 3:2-3).

Then he shares this promise, “When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory” (v. 4). Though you do have needs in this life, remember to put God first in all things and trust Him to take care of you.

Through the years, God has blessed the United States. However, as time has passed, the country as a whole seems to care less about the things of God or about pleasing Him. Yield each area of your life to the Lord. Another promise is that God will bring peace to those who pray for their leaders (1 Timothy 2:1-3). Lay your cares and worries at His feet.
