Be Ready to Give a Defense

But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts, and always be ready to give a defense to everyone who asks you a reason for the hope that is in you, with meekness and fear; having a good conscience, that when they defame you as evildoers, those who revile your good conduct in Christ may be ashamed. 1 Peter 3:15-16

What does Peter say? If someone comes to you and is asking for an answer, be ready and speak in meekness. If you do not know the answer, go back and study, so you can return and give them the correct answer. If you do not give them the right answer, you are going to be responsible.

We can all tell different stories of what we have gone through in our lives, but the guys who got saved, when I got saved, they all stayed on course. We had a real experience with God. We could have messed up, but God’s grace was there. We immediately got rooted and grounded in God’s Word. There was a hunger God gave us to read the Bible, to study the Bible, and to sit at Calvary Chapel, so we could grow. We wanted to be ready to give a defense.

All of you are the next generation. What is going to happen when the Van Cleaves and the Chuck Smiths—the real Bible teachers— are gone? What are you going to do with your life? Will you be ready to give a defense? Will you have a good conscience because you were prepared to answer the tough questions?

Think about it! I think about it every day.
