Let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy.
– Psalm 5:11
When was the last time you were overwhelmed with feelings of great pleasure and happiness? Maybe the birth of a child caused floods of delight for you. Or perhaps you were saturated with joy knowing someone you love has given his or her heart and life to the Lord. Do such feelings engulf you when you just stop and think of how much God loves you, and long to adore Him in return?
A great response is to lift your voice in song to the Lord. It might be in the shower, where singing feels good because the resonances are lively, or it could be in the quiet place where you pray. God always longs to hear from you, and He has given music to your soul, so sing to Him.
In Scripture, David often sang to the Lord. The people of Israel sang to Him at their festivals. At the conclusion of the Passover meal with Jesus, the disciples and Jesus also sang a hymn. A great example of joyful singing comes from Mary and Elizabeth who sing because of the miracle of life stirring within them. John the Baptist and Jesus would soon make their appearances and the two mothers were filled with delight. “My soul magnifies the Lord,” Mary sang.
God’s love, mercy, forgiveness, and power have come to you as a Christ-follower. Rejoice! Sing! Give glory and adoration to the One who has saved you.
