Right Standing With God

Since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Romans 5:1

Many years ago, Look magazine ran a feature where they asked prominent Americans where to find peace in a stressed-out world. Sixteen people were featured in the “Peace of Mind” article. James Michener, the author of many best-selling books, said he found peace by taking his dogs for a walk. Former Arizona Senator Barry Goldwater said he found it in his hobbies and in walking at the Grand Canyon. News anchor Walter Cronkite found it in solitude “on the sea in a small boat.” Others had similar answers, most of them subjective.

Former talk show host Rush Limbaugh said, “Jesus holds the answers to all of the everyday problems that you face.” Some 1,500 years ago, Saint Augustine wrote, “You made us for yourself, and our hearts find no peace until they rest in you.”

The Westminster Shorter Catechism describes justification as “an act of God’s free grace, wherein he pardons all our sins, and accepts us as righteous in his sight only for the righteousness of Christ imputed to us, and received by faith alone.”

Being justified through belief in the atoning work of Christ brings blessings—not the least among them is peace… peace of mind, of heart, of body, but mostly peace with God. There is no other way to find peace than by finding it as God gives it, requiring only your faith. Rest in that knowledge today.
