The Lord will never be boring or even predictable in His pursuit of us. He is willing to meet each of us where we need to be met, in whatever circumstances. He will speak to us in creative ways that will surprise, delight, and cause us to realize how much we need Him. So be listening, watching, and anticipating.

Never water down the Word of God, but preach it in its undiluted sternness. There must be unflinching faithfulness to the Word of God, but when you come to personal dealings with others, remember who you are— you are not some special being created in heaven, but a sinner saved by grace.

It seems that Christians are more concerned with offending other people over public demonstrations of their faith than ever before. Or is it something else? Has society painted such an unflattering image of Christians that many of us are embarrassed to publicly confess or demonstrate our faith for fear of being ridiculed or pre-judged? Perhaps it's simply a pride issue.

When we truly understand and acknowledge who God is, being on our knees -- face down in the dirt - is a very appropriate place to be.

There are times in leadership when we find ourselves isolated. Sometimes we find ourselves there of our own making. Sin doesn't cost Christians their salvation, any more than good acts make the unsaved righteous. It has to do with our character. Whose do we have? Has our old nature been replaced with the new one we gained in Christ?

If God can turn a rock into a pool of water, if God can make water flow from Flint, then he can transform our hearts even when they seem to be impervious to his grace. This is good news, indeed. So, if you find yourself in a spiritually rocky place today, at work or at home, turn to the Lord. Ask him to make living water flow from your stony heart.
