"Only when we love God with all our heart, soul, mind, and strength can we truly love our neighbor." — Francis Chan
Are you confused about what liberty you have in Christ and what is restricted? What does the Bible say? Absent a Scriptural prohibition, what does your conscience tell you? Which way is the Lord urging? His leadership will never be toward anyone or anything that will bring harm.
First, the Lord wants to affect our willingness to obey Him (to fulfill "His good pleasure" ). So, He invites us into His word to learn of His will. "Oh, that My people would listen to Me… [and] walk in My ways!" (Psalm 81:13). Then, His word goes to work within our hearts, convicting us of our need to obey it. "But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves" (James 1:22). All the while, He is nurturing in us a love for His word. "Therefore I love Your commandments more than gold, yes, than fine gold!" (Psalm 119:127). Increasingly, we become willing to (we desire to) obey His word. "I delight to do Your will, O my God" (Psalm 40:8).
“If you want to be free, set others free,” says Mike Mason. “Set people free to complicate your life, embarrass you, affront your standards, step on your toes. Don’t be a doormat, but neither be scandalized when people act human. The more you reel others in and try to squeeze them into your mold, the less you’ll enjoy them. To love people is to enjoy them truly, warts and all. Give everyone the freedom to be imperfect. The American slaves were not set free because they were jolly good fellows, but because they were human beings.”
You can jump in. Before you take the plunge into that pit, you can be well aware that what you’re about to do is wrong, probably even foolish. But the escalating desire to do it exceeds the good sense not to. You had time to think, and then you did exactly what you meant to do even if the pit turned out to be deeper and the consequences higher than you hoped.
Motive is huge to God. And so is character. Primarily His character, which we are created to emulate.
Isn’t it so strange how intent we are to cause our own problems? Willingly? Purposefully! But, God will not be mocked. He calls us to delight in His will, His way.
We were designed to know God. And until you come into a relationship with Him, you will keep coming up empty, time and again.
When you turn to God in faith and let Him forgive your sins, He will fill the void in your life—a void that only He can fill.
You don’t have to find out the hard way. You can come to God, and He will fill the void in your life. We all were born with an emptiness inside. No earthly relationship will fill it. No amount of sex or possessions will fill it. Nor will knowledge or morality or even good, clean living.
