Rejecting God's self-revelation in favor of our own ideas about what he would or wouldn't do is the height of self-righteous pride.

Hell is not full of people that God rejected. Hell is full of people that rejected God. Sometimes, we want things to move or shift in a specific direction, but we move too quickly away from a heart of worship. God wants our whole hearts to live and breathe His goodness, not just grab Him when things get rocky.
