QUOTES

“So completely was Jesus bent upon saving sinners by the sacrifice of Himself, He created the tree upon which He was to die, and nurtured from infancy the men who were to nail Him to the accursed wood. Oh the depth of Jesus's love to sinners!" — Octavius Winslow It is our business to show people that their need is not what they think it is. People say, ‘I want happiness,’ but really what they need is to be reconciled to God. —Martyn Lloyd-Jones, Exposition of Romans 10: Saving Faith, Pg. 131 “The innocent One is treated as the guilty One in order that the guilty ones may be treated as righteous ones. This the heart of the gospel.” — Sinclair Ferguson, To Seek And To Save 122. Stricken, smitten, and afflicted See Him dying on the tree! ‘Tis the Christ by man rejected Yes, my soul, ‘tis He, ‘tis He! ‘Tis the long-expected Prophet David’s son, yet David’s Lord By His Son God now has spoken ‘Tis the true and faithful Word

“A single grain of contentment is better than a pound of wealth.” — Stephen Charnock, Divine Providence, 68.

"Christ died"-that is history; "Christ died for our sins"-that is doctrine.

Sorrow and celebration can coexist. In one single day together. One month together. One season together. So let yourself laugh today. Let yourself cry today. Let yourself enjoy trying something new. And let yourself sit with a memory of something you miss.

Let's not say yes to things simply because we can't figure out how to say no. Rather, let's say yes when we sense God's invitation.

Choosing gratitude right in the middle of what’s hard isn’t denial. But it is choosing to do only what can be done today. When God's love is my starting place for processing what to do... It frees me from skepticism. It frees me from letting harsh comments from people derail me. It frees me from placing unrealistic expectations on others. It helps keep me grounded in God’s Word and my heart pure. It’s God’s presence plus His promise that chases away our anxious thoughts. So in the places where you are feeling alone and afraid... remember, God is right there with you. Acknowledge His presence. Proclaim His promises. These are the sweetest comforts I know. Good Friday is our reminder that when everything feels lost and darkness seems to take over, there is hope on the way. We know a better ending because we know a victorious Savior. Darkness may last for a while, but joy comes in the morning. (Psalm 30:5) God is writing a beautiful story for you, friend. You can rest peacefully tonight and wake up encouraged knowing He is doing more on your behalf behind the scenes than you could ever imagine.

Repentance is the true turning of our life to God, a turning that arises from pure and earnest fear of Him; and it consists in the mortification of the flesh and the renewing of the Spirit. John Calvin Nothing, including human suffering, happens by chance. John Calvin Where God’s Spirit does not reign, there is no humility, and men ever swell with inward pride. John Calvin Man’s mind is like a store of idolatry and superstition; so much so that if a man believes his own mind it is certain that he will forsake God and forge some idol in his own brain. John Calvin There is no worse screen to block out the Spirit than confidence in our own intelligence. John Calvin

The majesty of God in itself goes beyond the capacity of human understanding and cannot be comprehended by it. We must adore its loftiness rather than investigate it so that we do not remain overwhelmed by so great a splendor. John Calvin Holiness is not a merit by which we can attain communion with God, but a gift of Christ, which enables us to cling to him, and to follow him. John Calvin No man can come to God but by an extraordinary revelation of the Spirit. John Calvin Unless God’s Word lights the way, the whole life of men is wrapped in darkness and mist, so that they cannot but miserably stray. John Calvin
