QUOTES

“We need to wean ourselves away from identifying particular churches as ‘So-And-So's church.’” — Michael Horton, Ordinary, 109. "Hard words, if they are true, are better than soft words, if they are false." — Charles Spurgeon "Sin is a disease, and nothing can cure this disease but the blood of the Physician." -

Thomas Watson. Body of Divinity, 134. “Open show of difference is only good when it is necessary, although some, from a desire to be somebody, turn into byways and yield to a spirit of contrariness in themselves.” —

Richard Sibbes “Weakness with watchfulness will stand when strength with too much confidence fails.” — Richard Sibbes “When the church is not outward-looking, you literally kill each other over the color of the carpet… you are fighting over nothing.” — Conrad Mbewe “Do not announce your eschatology until you have mastered Zechariah” — John MacArthur

“Our blessed Saviour glorified his Father by revealing the mystery of the gospel to simple men, neglecting those that carried the chief reputation of wisdom in the world (Matt. 11:25-26).” — Richard Sibbes “Error crumbles under the power of the truth.”

"And often, in coming down to this pulpit, have I felt my knees knock together – not that I am afraid of any one of my hearers, but I am thinking of that account which I must render to God, whether I speak His Word faithfully or not." —Charles Spurgeon

"A student will find that his mental constitution is more affected by one book thoroughly mastered than by twenty books which he has merely skimmed, lapping at them." -

Charles Spurgeon What do we think preaching is but the central act of Christian worship? As a matter of fact, everything else ought to build to the preaching of the Word, for that is when the God of whom we have been speaking and singing speaks to us from His eternal and perfect Word. -Al Mohler We are called to be cruciform (shaped by the cross), Christophers (bearing the Christ of the cross), and Christ-placarders (setting Christ and Him crucified on display, cf. Galatians 3:1) in our preaching of Christ. - Sinclair Ferguson

"There was never a more tortured individual that met Christ than Pilate." —Alistair Begg

"God has stamped your life with a new identity, and nobody can dispute it." —Alistair Begg

"In Jesus, we have a Priest who sheds His grace on our lives daily through His heavenly mediation. As Jesus enjoys being in His Father's presence today, He is not offering a sacrifice, but rather speaking as our advocate before the Father." —Alistair Begg

"Jesus is the perfect Son, who cares more than anything about bringing glory to His Father and who is angered more than anything by lies, greed, and pursuit of power that comes between His Father and sinners in need of grace." —Alistair Begg

When Jesus tells us to “forgive as the Lord forgave us,” He isn’t being insensitive to our pain. He’s graciously showing us how to get free from the long-term effects of being hurt. There's usually some element of protection wrapped in every rejection. The truth is that's hard to see when our heart is hurting. If that's you today, cling to God's goodness. Trust in His love. And thank Him for the protection that's part of this rejection even if you can’t see it. Anytime we feel not good enough we deny the powerful truth that we are a glorious work of God in progress. So let’s stop expecting perfection in ourselves and perfection in others that not even God Himself expects.

A hard season doesn’t have to be full of only hard days. There is so much more to this one incredible life than the sum total of our heartbreak.
