QUOTES

So is it with many daily; they think their conviction [of sin] is their conversion, and that their sins are pardoned because they are troubled. It is not enough that we are “weary and heavy laden,” but we 𝘮𝘶𝘴𝘵 “come to Him.”

—John Owen, Exposition of Ps. 130, Works 6:378-79

This reminds me of what Goodwin says in Jesus’ words “Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest.” The promise is not to weariness, but to come to Christ. —Thomas Goodwin, Works 4:15

Undershepherd of Christ whom I love, trust, follow and preach as a husband, dad, and pastor making disciples of the nations for God's glory, not my own.

Living on a mission means that you've resisted the world's plea to just mind your own business.

Genuine peace and unity in the church are never achieved by compromising the truth but always precisely by unwaveringly maintaining and guarding the truth. Compromising truth for the sake of appearances, temporary peace always leads ultimately to division, disunity, and apostasy.

In the Great Commission, Jesus didn't say "teach them all I've commanded,” nor did he say “only teach them doctrine.” He said, "teach them to observe/guard all that I've commanded." Discipleship.

A pastor who fails to deal with sin is like a doctor who fails to deal with illness. You better find another one. Luther

Don't let your feelings inform your doctrine, make your doctrine inform your feelings.

It's true, Jesus was a friend of sinners, and because he was a true friend, he called those friends to repent and believe.

Grace is only given to those who know they're beggars, and beggars only know they're beggars because grace is given to them.

Just because there's a church building on every corner doesn't mean the gospel is preached on every corner.

Our flesh fights against prayer because prayer humiliates, tortures, and kills our flesh.

While we fight in this raging battle, gathered worship is our weekly celebration of victory that Christ has overcome the world, the war is won, our enemy is defeated, and our future is secure in our returning king.

You can tell your faith is real if when the Holy Spirit pricks your conscience you bleed repentance.
