If my sermons kept people from reading the Bible for themselves, I would like to see the whole stock in a blaze and burned to ashes. Charles Spurgeon

"[God] can see you when you only hope in his mercy, and he takes pleasure in you if you have only begun to fear him." - Charles Spurgeon

I am always asked this question: what do you think is the main problem facing the church? The main issue facing the church is the lack of discernment. —John MacArthur

Young people don't need leaders who are adults but act like teens or college students. They need leaders who act like adults but care about teenagers and college students.

Discernment is not just the capacity to tell the difference between truth and error, but more importantly, truth from half-truths.

Backsliding generally first begins with neglect of private prayer. 1. Bibles read without prayer; 2. Marriages contracted without prayer; 3. Journeys are undertaken without prayer; 4. Residences are chosen without prayer; 5. Friendships formed without prayer...

Bible study is the metal that makes a Christian. This is the strong meat on which holy men are nourished. Charles Spurgeon

Walking is a very insightful description of spiritual life. A walk has a beginning and a destination. Our beginning was in new birth: "born of the Spirit" (John 3:6). Our destination is heaven forever with our Lord and Savior: "And thus we shall always be with the Lord" (1 Thessalonians 4:17). A good walk is steady and progressive. We are called to be faithful:

We are called to press ahead: "forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press toward the goal" (Philippians 3:13-14). In addition, a walk has many potential adventures along the way. We are likely to encounter stretching challenges and paradoxical blessings:

The Bible clearly points out that Christ will return. In fact, New Testament writers mention Christ’s return no less than 318 times. Statistically, one out of every twenty-five verses in the New Testament speaks of Jesus’ return.

He has saved us and called us to a holy life — not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. — 2 Timothy 1:9 NIV

Your purpose should not feel like a heavy burden or a drag. God created this purpose for you and you for this purpose. It’s a part of you, something important and fulfilling, just like your relationship with God.

Do you know what your purpose is? Are you working to fulfill it? When you get discouraged or tired, lean into God the Father and ask for His help, enthusiasm, and creativity!

There is in Christ rest for God's people, when exercised with afflictions.

When God sanctifies the heart, He enlightens the head. — Charles Spurgeon
