“Read the Scripture, not only as a history but as a love letter sent to you from God.” —

Thomas Watson

Invictus

Out of the night that covers me,

Black as the pit from pole to pole,

I thank whatever gods may be

For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance

I have not winced nor cried aloud.

Under the bludgeoning of chance

My head is bloody but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears

Looms but the Horror of the shade,

And yet the menace of the years

Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,

How charged with punishments the scroll,

I am the master of my fate,

I am the captain of my soul.

Lord make me humble but don't let me know it

DL Moody

Our God is a God of promises. He characteristically works by making and fulfilling promises. We are His children. We are children of promise. We were birthed spiritually into God's family through faith in His promises. Two sons of Abraham (Ishmael and Isaac) provide a vivid contrast that attests to our sonship by promise.

"As you have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him." The parallel is simple and straightforward: "As… so."As we were saved, so we are to walk. We started out with the Lord by faith in the life-giving promise of the gospel. "And this is the promise that He has promised us eternal life" (1 John 2:25).

Whenever God means to make a man great, He always breaks him into pieces first.

Charles Spurgeon

A perfect God requires perfect righteousness to stand before His perfect holiness. This is why God sent His perfect Son.

“As you listen to the conversations of the world, they are, for the most part, conversations of the deaf.” —

Paul Tournier

Nothing is worth losing the Presence of the Prince of Peace! Let’s not take shortcuts and rest in Him joyfully through worries and stresses, hard times and troubles. We can stay calm in Him!

The Bible says that “by faith, we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible” (Hebrews 11:3 NKJV). Everything we look at consists of protons and neutrons and electrons. So, it was the Bible that told us the things we see are made of things we don’t see.

The Spirit of God knows the things of God because he is one with God.

~Matthew Henry~

When we pray for the Spirit's help ... we will simply fall down at the Lord's feet in our weakness. There we will find the victory and power that comes from His love.

~Andrew Murray~

We cannot do the work of God in our own strength or live the Christian life without the empowering of the Holy Spirit.

If I could conceive Him, He was not God, for God is incomprehensibly above whatsoever I can say, whatsoever I can think and conceive of Him. —

Stephen Charnock, Works 1:279

"Trials teach us what we are; they dig up the soil and let us see what we are made of." —

Charles Spurgeon
