OBEY GOD

If you faithfully obey the voice of the Lord your God, being careful to do all his commandments that I command you today, the Lord your God will set you high above all the nations of the earth. – Deuteronomy 28:1

Moses declared to the people of Israel not long before he died that there would be a blessing for them if they faithfully obeyed the laws of the Lord God. If, however, they disobeyed, curses would come upon them.

There are important principles of life to be drawn from God’s Word and applied to every nation. “Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain” (Psalm 127:1). The Lord will prosper a nation that keeps Him as their God. He will provide for them, give them an abundant supply of the necessities of life, and will give them safety in their endeavors.

William McKinley, 25th President of the United States, once wrote, “Our faith teaches that there is no safer reliance than upon the God of our fathers, who has so singularly favored the American people in every national trial, and who will not forsake us so long as we obey His commandments and walk humbly in His footsteps.”

In his commentary on Deuteronomy, Reverend James Wolfendale wrote, “Obedience is the best policy for nations and individuals. There is an intimate connection between conduct and destiny, between morality and worldly prosperity.”
