God’s Understanding is Unsearchable

Have you not known? Have you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint or grow weary; his understanding is unsearchable.       – Isaiah 40:28

Imagine a toddler trying to explain what his dad did for a living. For the most part, it would be beyond his comprehension. The verse says God’s understanding is “unsearchable.” Clues to knowing God are in what He reveals in His Word, His Spirit, His people, and His creation.

Though what He knows is “unsearchable” in totality, His people are still invited to seek Him and to ask for wisdom that comes only from Him. “Now set your mind and heart to seek the Lord your God” (1 Chronicles 22:19). Humans can become confused about the Lord’s voice and human thought. A sure guideline concerning what is from God or not is through the Bible. Do your thoughts line up with the Word of God?

Today’s verse also says that God does not grow weary. Imagine a young child with hundreds of questions. It takes patience to answer them. God never grows weary of His people seeking His wisdom. One of God’s complaints in Isaiah is that Israel did not come to Him and ask His opinion.

“Ah, stubborn children, declares the Lord, who carry out a plan, but not mine, and who ally, but not of my Spirit, that they may add sin to sin; who set out to go down to Egypt, without asking for my direction” (Isaiah 30:1-2).

Go to the Lord and ask His opinion concerning the choices you make each day.
