The heart of a man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps. – Proverbs 16:9
The Global Positioning System was first used by the U.S. military after the Cold War made it clear that a system for global navigation was needed. The original GPS satellite, known as Navstar, was sent into orbit in 1978. Nine of the ten original Navstars reached orbit, and their results were limited. The high-quality GPS signals known today were restricted to military use until May 2000. The system is funded worldwide by American taxpayers ($2 million per day according to some sources) and is free to other countries. Useful to oceanic shipping companies and international airlines, it is often utilized daily by American motorists just heading to a new restaurant.
Long before the Global Positioning System, there was a God Positioning System—your spiritual GPS. You may have made plans for your life journey, as people usually do. Many times, you make decisions in life, thinking that is the right path for your future dreams to come true. But today’s verse is a reminder that it is the Lord who knows what is best for you, and He has your life already mapped out. He knows the deserts and the valleys, the storms and winds, and the difficult places to avoid.
Before you set out each day, take the time to read His Word and pray. Seek the spiritual GPS already laid out for you. You need His love and hand to guide you, to direct your going out and your coming in.
