When God speaks of compassion, He never speaks of emotional unbalances but rather Help in time of need, Being merciful, poor in Spirit, and so on. If you get mad at the pastor you are not rejecting him but rather God as David was told. As the Children of Israel did the same thing.
People stop worshiping the Lord because of the death of a loved one, pastors don't shake their hand or call. Some leave the church and go to another and never have a church home, thinking the Lord is going to change.
The Bible says in Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ [is] the same yesterday, today, and forever
John The Apostle was very loving and compassionate towards Jesus and others but never did he respond out of emotion. When we realize we serve a living God who is able to supply all our needs Who says Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."
We then look no longer at the man of God but rather at God himself.
Mat 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
I heard recently a sister left a church because the pastor spoke against Obama and others walked away because their emotions were not met. Every time there is pre-funeral counseling somebody asks if God is a God of love why, you fill in the blank.
These are those who are not exorcised in the word and have no foundation apart from what they hear on Sunday morning.
Hbr. 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, [even] those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
This is why we are to train up our little ones in the way that they are to go, it does not mean all discipline but rather as the Jews they taught their children the Law from birth.
Deuteronomy 6: 4 "Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one! 5 You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. 6 "And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. 7 You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up. 8 You shall bind them as a sign on your hand, and they shall be as frontlets between your eyes. 9 You shall write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.
Abundant joy or life abundantly comes from faith in God and faith in God comes from knowing the living word.
