The Lord is our Deliverer
Story: Daniel 6:1 – 23
– Daniel was a man of excellent spirit before the Lord. It was this spirit that caught the attention of the newly crowned king of Babylon, Darius. Darius sought to arrange his new kingdom under 120 satraps who would function under 3 governors. One of these 3 governors was Daniel. Daniel did so well that King Darius was considering giving the whole realm over to his rule. This angered the other 2 governors and the satraps. They came up with a plan to catch Daniel violating a new law they made specifically against Daniel’s prayer practice. When he was caught in violation, he was thrown into a den of lions as punishment. God, however, delivered him from this grizzly plot.

The Lord is our Strength
Story: 1 Samuel 17 – Impending battle looms across the Valley of Elah. The Philistines are in full battle array before the children of Israel. They have to offer Saul and his men a deal: send out a champion of his army to meet their gargantuan champion Goliath and end any further need for bloodshed. The winner takes all. Saul and all of Israel, however, are greatly afraid. Enter young David. He is the youngest boy of eight to be born to Jesse the Bethlehemite. He has come to deliver supplies at the front line to his three oldest brothers. David is disappointed by the fear he sees in his brethren over this single Philistine man. He offers to fight this huge upstart but will do so in the strength of his God; the Lord God of Israel. David’s confidence in the strength of his God is no more starkly evident than in his words to the Philistine, “You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.”
What We are Teaching Today
“What are some things you are not strong enough to do?”
God gave great strength to David as we see in 1 Samuel 17 to face the tremendous challenge that stood before him in the enormous frame of Goliath. In the same way He can strengthen every child in your care today.

The Lord is our Shield
Story: Ephesians 6: 10 – 18
The armor of God is complete. The warrior of God has no need. The Christian, young and old, is outfitted head to toe thoroughly for every obstacle that may lie ahead. There is opposition to the believer in the devil. He is a wily adversary both unscrupulous and ruthless. A great encouragement that comes in spite of the daunting prospect of Satan’s opposition is the fact that God is our shield. The shield of faith is exceedingly capable of dousing the flames of the enemy’s onslaught.

The Lord is our Fortress
Story: John 10:27 – 30 – Jesus describes those who believe in Him as sheep. They are not, however, just any sheep but they are His personal flock that hears His voice. Since they are His sheep they have the assurance of His protection. Our Lord explains that His sheep have been given to Him by God the Father. He uses the term “neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand” to describe the security the believer has in Him. This shows a clear picture of the refuge His sheep have in His presence. There is strong, loving security in the fortress of the Lord’s mighty hand. His sheep are untouchable.

The Lord is our Salvation
Story: Acts 16:25 – 34 – The apostle Paul and Silas were put in prison in Philippi when Paul had cast a demon out of a young servant girl. While in prison, the two of them sang out to the Lord in worship and praise. They were praying well into midnight one night when there was a great earthquake. This was no ordinary earthquake. It opened all the doors of the prison and loosed all the shackles from the prisoners. When the jailor thought all had escaped as a result, he was set to take his own life. Paul assured him that none had escaped. When the jailor found this to be true, he was so moved by this that he asked “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” Paul told him belief in Jesus Christ brings salvation.

Genesis 4:1-17
CAIN AND ABEL
Cain and Abel
1 Adam made love to his wife Eve, and she became pregnant and gave birth to Cain. She said, “With the help of the LORD I have brought forth a man.”
2 Later she gave birth to his brother Abel. Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil.
3 In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the LORD.
4 And Abel also brought an offering—fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The LORD was pleased with Abel and his offering,
5 but on Cain and his offering he was not pleased. So Cain was very angry, and his face was discouraged.
6 Then the LORD said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face discouraged?
7 If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, you will be in sin; it wants you, but you must rule over it.”
8 Now Cain said to his brother Abel, “Let’s go out to the field.” While they were in the field, Cain attacked his brother Abel and killed him.
9 Then the LORD said to Cain, “Where is your brother Abel?”
“I don’t know,” he replied. “Am I my brother’s keeper?”
10 The LORD said, “What have you done? Listen! Your brother’s blood cries out to me from the ground.
11 Now you are under a curse and driven from the ground, which opened its mouth to receive your brother’s blood from your hand.
12 When you work the ground, it will no longer yield its crops for you. You will be a restless wanderer on the earth.”
13 Cain said to the LORD, “My punishment is more than I can bear.
14 Today you are driving me from the land, and I will be hidden from your presence; I will be a restless wanderer on the earth, and whoever finds me will kill me.”
15 But the LORD said to him, “Not so; anyone who kills Cain will suffer vengeance seven times over.” Then the LORD put a mark on Cain so that no one who found him would kill him.
16 So Cain went out from the Lord’s presence and lived in the land of Nod, east of Eden.
