The unwillingness of people to be aware of threats that come upon them in small increments.

Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind.

Romans 12:2

The boiling frog story – put a frog in tepid water, gradually heat up the water; the frog will not perceive the danger and be cooked to death – is said to be false by contemporary biologists. However, its meaning can be compared to the inability or unwillingness of people to be aware of threats that come upon them in small increments. These may be described as creeping normality or policies that portend moving down a slippery slope.

Sometimes there are few people that recognize the subtly distorted principles that are gradually infused into human society, but it is likely that the believer in God and His Word will be among them. Titus 2:11-12 says: “For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age.” One commentator wrote that “today we are aliens, living in a society of the lost.”

Rather than being discouraged by current events, delve into God’s Word and allow the Lord to reshape your attitude and perspective on life. Learn to live by God’s principles, and “be transformed by the renewal of your mind” (Romans 12:2), praying for wisdom to discern the will of God. Do not allow yourself to be squeezed into the world’s mold. Instead of conformity to it, stand firm for truth and godly living.

Intercede for those in the world who would seek to do things that are contrary to the Word of God.
