When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth. –
John 16:13
Did you ever sit in a classroom where the instruction seemed to come at you so fast that it was like trying to drink water from a fire hose? Receiving that much information that quickly can almost make your head spin.
Bible scholar Warren Wiersbe says that, when Jesus taught, “Our Lord was always careful to give His disciples the right amount of truth at the best time for them to receive it.” The apostle John records Jesus stating, “I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now” (John 16:12). The passage for today comes toward the end of Christ’s ministry when He explained to the disciples that He was going to leave them. They were sorrowful, but Jesus was quick to point out that the “Spirit of truth” would come to “guide [them] into all the truth” (v. 13).
“The Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, he will teach you all things and bring to your remembrance all that I have said to you” (John 14:26). And so it was. The Spirit of God testified to the disciples the truth of the Lord Jesus, reminded them of the words He had spoken to them and gave them insight into their conversations with the Savior.
The same is true today. Those who believe in Jesus as Lord and Savior are blessed by the Holy Spirit who brings God’s Word to your remembrance, both to convict you and to give you joy in knowing Him more. It is He who enlightens you with God’s truth in Scripture.
