The Longing Soul

He satisfies the longing soul.

Psalm 107:9

Your life’s conditions have no bearing on God’s faithfulness. You can be in the midst of earthly issues that pull at your peace of mind – sickness, work-related problems, or relational matters. You might be in a spiritual tug-of-war with forces trying to obstruct your relationship with the Lord. Whatever it is, the Lord will answer your prayer calling for help. “He satisfies the longing soul” (Psalm 107:9). He is mindful of your needs.

The writer of Psalm 107 lists a variety of conditions that try the human soul, both physically and spiritually. Even in the midst of these, the psalmist urges you to thank the Lord for His steadfast love and for His wondrous works on behalf of man (Vv. 1, 8, 15, 21, 31). Bible commentator S. Conway says it is only right and infinitely desirable to praise God for His goodness: “Think how great, how varied, how constant, how all undeserved, how costly, is the goodness of God to men, and how it follows them continually all the days of their life here and then go with them into the eternal life.”

There will always be those who question God’s goodness. They do not perceive the wonderful works of God in their lives nor recognize divine intervention. But verse two of Psalm 107 is significant: “Let the redeemed of the Lord say so.” It is the believer’s responsibility to share the fact that you love Him because He first loved you (1 John 4:19). Give God praise and thanks for those serving in government positions who know Him. Then pray that others will accept the peace of God who satisfies the longing soul.
