Spiritual Hearing

So faith comes from hearing and hearing through the word of Christ.

Romans 10:17

Amazing things can be done with physical hearing these days. Some popular videos on Facebook show the surprised and happy expressions on the faces of small children when they hear for the first time. Jesus talked often about spiritual hearing, for example, in the parable of the sower. He said, “He who has ears, let him hear” (Luke 8:8).

How do you improve your spiritual hearing? Today’s verse says, “Faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the Words of Christ.” The gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, give a clear picture of who Jesus is and what He had to say. The entire New Testament expounds on who Jesus is. The Old Testament points repeatedly to Jesus. James warns not to merely know what the Bible says, but to put it into practice (James 1:22).

As you read the Word, understand it, and apply it to your life, your faith will grow. Why is it important to live by faith? This pleases God (Hebrews 11:6). You will receive what God has planned for you, including miracles (Mathew 9:22). You will embrace God’s promises that give you hope (Hebrews 10:23). Living by faith helps you endure the trials of life (James 1:2-3), gives you direction (Proverbs 3:5-6), justifies (Romans 3:28), and affirms your worth (John 3:16, Romans 5:8).

Increase your faith by spending time in the Bible and applying it to your life. Pray, believing that God loves you, hears you, and answers your prayers.
