You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart. – Jeremiah 29:13
Many children and adults alike love stories like Aladdin involving hidden treasure. Those seeking the treasure, whether good or bad, put great effort into hunting for it. The greater the treasure, the greater the effort.
Today’s verse offers an invitation to the greatest treasure hunt of all time. God promises that if you will seek Him you will find Him when you seek with all your heart. This implies investing the effort. This isn’t about the efforts of good works in order to get salvation, since salvation comes by grace. It means to make seeking God your top priority. Jesus said, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21).
Seek God through prayer, fasting, Bible study, and becoming an integral part of a body of believers. 2 Kings 1 tells the story of King Ahaziah of Samaria who injured himself falling through a lattice. He sent messengers to inquire of Baal-zebub of Ekron if he’d live or die. An angel told the Prophet Elijah to meet the messengers and say, “Is it because there is no God in Israel that you are going to inquire of Baal-zebub, the god of Ekron? Now therefore thus says the Lord, ‘You shall not come down from the bed to which you have gone up, but you shall surely die.’”
God wants His people to involve Him in their decision-making. Ask God for wisdom for the choices you make today.
