“[the Devil]... stands waiting for them, like greedy hungry lions that see their prey, and expect to have it...”

“Some have imagined and pretended that God’s promises are effectual for a man in his natural state if that man is truly earnest in his seeking and knocking. But it is visibly clear that God is under no obligation to keep such a person from eternal destruction, not even for one moment. It doesn’t matter how religious the man is or how many prayers he makes. Until he believes in Christ, God is not obligated in any way to protect him.”

“Some make gods of their pleasures; some choose Mammon for their god; some make gods of their own supposed excellencies, or the outward advantages they have above their neighbors: some choose one thing for their god, and others another. But men can be happy in no other God but the God of Israel: he is the only fountain of happiness.”

“What are we, that we should think to stand before him, at whose rebuke the earth trembles, and before whom the rocks are thrown down?”

“Almost every natural man that hears of hell flatters himself that he shall escape it; he depends upon himself for his own security; he flatters himself in what he has done, in what he is now doing, or what he intends to do. Everyone lays out matters in his own mind how he shall avoid damnation, and flatters himself that he contrives well for himself and that his schemes will not fail. They hear indeed that there are but few saved, and that the greater part of men that have died heretofore are gone to hell, but each one imagines that he lays out matters better for his own escape than others have done. He does not intend to come to that place of torment; he says within himself, that he intends to take effectual care, and to order matters so for himself as not to fail.”

“Tis a more glorious effect of power to make that holy that was so depraved and under the dominion of sin, than to confer holiness on that which before had nothing of the contrary. It is a more glorious work of power to rescue a soul out of the hands of the devil, and from the powers of darkness, and to bring it into a state of salvation than to confer holiness where there was no prepossession or opposition. Luke xi. 21, 22,”

“There is nothing that keeps wicked men at any one moment out of hell, but the mere pleasure of God.”

The key to success is never to think you deserve it.

Obedience is a vital issue for every believer. Throughout the Scriptures, we see that God's desire is for His children to walk in obedience. Moses wrote of this truth. "You shall obey the voice of the LORD your God, and observe His commandments and His statutes which I command you today" (Deuteronomy 27:10). Samuel confirmed this truth. "Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice" (1 Samuel 15:22). Likewise, the Apostle Peter declared that God's children are to live "as obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts" (1 Peter 1:14).

Our lives are to be under the rule (the dominion) of God's will revealed in His word. When we are disobedient to God's will, sin is dominating our lives. The Lord certainly wants us to get out from under the domination of sin and to live obediently. The only path to such liberation is the grace of God. "For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace" (Romans 6:14).

Bob Hoekstra

What the law demanded was good. "The law is holy, and the commandment holy and just and good" (Romans 7:12). Yet, the resources were lacking. A man could not measure up on his own. "For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23). Furthermore, this perfect law offered no help to change a man into what is required. "The law made nothing perfect" (Hebrews 7:19a). Praise God, there is a provision that can accomplish what the law cannot do. "On the other hand, there is the bringing in of a better hope" (Hebrews 7:19b). That effective hope is the grace of God.

As we receive personal instruction from the Lord it is important to remember His lesson first applies to us individually -- not necessarily to everyone in our lives.

"Many people will do almost anything except think." —

Charles Spurgeon

If you go past the cross, you’ve gone too far. —

Dr. Carl Livingston

The streams of glory are not like the water of a conduit, often stopped, so that we cannot have one drop of water; but those heavenly streams of joy are continually running.

Thomas Watson

The church does not meet as often as the home. Thus, if Christ is to be worshipped daily, it is incumbent upon the home to play an important spiritual role. Consequently, fathers, as heads of households, are thrust into a pastoral role. -

Voddie

To tell about Jesus without the cross is to betray him with a kiss.

Charles Spurgeon

Without the cross, there would be no grace.

Without the cross, there would be no goodness.

Without the cross, there would be no gratitude.

— Dr. Carl Livingston

My Top 5 reasons people are NOT returning to physical church (my opinion):

5. Online service is too comfortable.

4. No accountability online.

3. People were told, “watching online was legitimate for 2 years.”

2. They have actually left your church.

1. They don’t like you.

We need preachers who still preach God is holy, hell is real, salvation is available, death is coming, and Jesus is returning. God, give us such men!

Dustin Benge

Without God, what am I but a guide to my own destruction?

Augustine

The believer delights in coming like a beggar in his own rags, for he knows he has nothing else to offer to God.

Jonathan Edwards

"You never lose by loving. You only lose by holding back." -

Barbara De Angelis
