Being a Christian isn’t a game. It’s a war.

It is more important to what happens in you than what happens to you… 2Cr 4:16Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward [man] is being renewed day by day.

The fruit of the Spirit is not excitement or

orthodoxy: it is character.

~G. B. Duncan~

Have you locked yourself into a particular belief structure that has put you at odds with fellow Christians? Is it a healthy debate or has it turned angry and ugly? Are you making a fine point of faith more important than the Lord intended? Sometimes we just want to be right when only the Lord knows the right answer -- what came first the chicken or the egg? Is it worth going to war over? Or, are revivals more about the ability to think freely rather than follow traditional thought processes?

The path of discipleship can only be traveled by faith (by trusting in our unseen Lord). Progress can never be made by sight (by relying upon that which our human senses can gather and process).

“We generally change ourselves for one of two reasons: inspiration or desperation.” – Jim Rohn

He who excuses himself accuses himself.

~Gabriel Meurier~

What God wants from His people is obedience,

no matter what the circumstances,

no matter how unknown the outcome.

~Charles Colson~

God looks at the heart of man, and decides how He will use him. He sees whether we are men and women of integrity. He knows if He can trust us with His plans and purposes. If we cannot be believed on our word, we are surely not be trusted on our oath.

~C. H. Spurgeon~

I find it interesting how sometimes when we set out to do the work of God, we will be opposed by fellow Christians. We have a lost world outside our doors while, all too often, we are quibbling among ourselves. We argue and expend our energy talking about minutiae when we have a world that is on its way to hell.

if we are too busy using our sickles on each other, we will miss the harvest. That is why we must take our eyes off the trivial and focus on what really matters.

Vance Havner

Jesus called us to be salt, not sugar...

Always remember religion is man’s attempt to reach God; those self-righteous efforts will not succeed. God has reached down to us through Jesus Christ; who died on the cross for our sins. He is the only way to God:

Believers must deal in the world, its systems, and with those in it, but also maintain a degree of separation in order to achieve the proper balance. How do we do so? By avoiding relationships in which we are being more influenced by their "negatives" than they are by our "positives".

If you are trying to fit in, you are not focused on the great commission.

The Proper understanding of the Scriptures comes only through the Holy Spirit.

~Martin Luther~

The Golden Hour is here, right where you are. Jesus told us we would be his witnesses, first in the place where our feet are planted. At your kitchen table, in line at the grocery store, walking the dog within your neighborhood, in the boardroom, on the other end of that phone call. This moment, right now, is what you are called to. This is the adventure of a lifetime.

We become like what we worship.

The twentieth-century writer A. W. Tozer made a stunning claim: “What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.” The Knowledge of the Holy (1961; repr., San Francisco: Harper-SanFrancisco, 1975).

what you think about God will shape your destiny in life.

Every road, every step to recovery from a knockdown event in life is littered with choices we must make, but truly there are only two -- either follow God or Satan.

“To love is to move as close to the other as is possible without violating the other’s dignity and personhood.”

David Augsburger

Let’s not retreat to our echo chambers or jump straight to arguing. Instead, let’s stay connected to each other, listening to different perspectives, and respecting each other’s beliefs. At the same, time, let’s be true to what we believe by sharing our values.

The best way to prepare for the coming of Christ is never to forget the presence of Christ.

We need to hear from God before we hear from everybody else. That’s a good reason not to start the day by looking at email or text messages, but rather to first look at the messages God has placed in your primary inbox: Scripture.

Spiritual discernment is not optional for the believer but is a clearly commanded necessity for proper Christian living.

Satan corrupts some in their judgment by interpreting gospel truth in such a way that God appears to condone questionable behavior.

These Christians get caught up in the world’s morality under the guise of Christian liberty.

—William Gurnall, Christian in Complete Armour,1:86

In a world of confusion, how do we pray for our children?

1. Salvation in Christ. 2. Wisdom in thinking. 3. Discernment in living 4. Selflessness in serving. 5. Joy in suffering. 6. Mercy in acting. 7. Kindness in responding. 8. Hope in enduring. 9. Boldness in standing. Dustin Benge

If for no other reason, God gives you that one that keeps you on your knees.

"Giving your heart to Christ is not the gospel. Salvation comes from something that Christ gives you, not something that you give to Christ."

— Charles Spurgeon

Do not look on temptation with a wandering eye if you do not wish to be taken by it, nor allow your mind to dwell on that which you do not want lodging in your heart.

—William Gurnall, The Christian in Complete Armour, 1:85

Prayer is the master weapon. We should be greatly wise if we used it more.

Charles Spurgeon

Let the cry of your prayers out-cry the cry of your sins.

Thomas Goodwin

"We can preach the gospel of Christ no further than we have experienced the power of it in our own hearts."

-George Whitefield.

If you wish to stand firm in the midst of suffering, forewarn yourself of this fact: temptation is never stronger than when relief seems to dress in the very sin that Satan is suggesting. —

William Gurnall, The Christian in Complete Armour, 1:84

Let us not linger, but at once return unto the Lord from whom we have gone astray.

- Charles Spurgeon

We can never go to Jesus too often.

Charles Spurgeon

We cannot base experience as doctrine. Otherwise, there is a danger of anybody preaching what they want to preach and there is no context to the text. Everything has to be biblically based. We need good exposition. Was this taught by the prophet? Did Jesus teach it? Do we find it written in the Gospels and in Epistles? The Apostle Paul warned us about people who beautiful, fair speech deceives the simple. They easily twist and turn the scriptures:

Bible study is the metal that forges a Christian.

~C.H. Spurgeon~

We can't be "more" holy no matter how hard we might try, because holiness is not based on the merit system.

In order to grow in grace, we must live by faith. "Therefore it is of faith that it might be according to grace" (Romans 4:16). We cannot progress spiritually by the use of our natural, Adamic faculties. We must walk by faith in the Lord and His word.

When we properly understand the concept and reality of His grace, peace will surely follow.

We must walk by faith, by depending upon our Lord, His word, and the work of grace by His Holy Spirit. Spiritual progress is made "while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen."

All the spiritual fruit that goes from generation to generation will come back to you. You will share in it. And you will be rewarded for your faithfulness to God.

That seed might not break ground until later. Maybe one person you’ve led to the Lord will lead twenty people to the Lord twenty years from now. Or maybe the person you impacted with the gospel will have children who raise their children in the way of the Lord. And maybe one of their children will become the next Billy Graham.

As you think about your life, you might say, “I don’t know that I’ve reached thousands or hundreds or even tens.” But if you follow Jesus Christ and have told others about Him, then you’ve sown seeds of the gospel.

Some people have tougher lives than others. Certain people seem to skate through life relatively unscathed. On the other hand, maybe you’ve had a difficult life, but you’ve been faithful during those times of testing. Despite setbacks, hardships, disabilities, or illnesses, you have honored the Lord. As a result, you will receive the crown of life.

“Mercy and forgiveness must be free and unmerited to the wrongdoer. If the wrongdoer has to do something to merit it, then it isn’t mercy, but forgiveness always comes at a cost to the one granting the forgiveness.”—Tim Keller

“Forgiveness is the giving, and so the receiving of life.”—George MacDonald

“Much of our prayer is just asking God to bless some folks that are ill, and to keep us plugging along. But prayer is not merely prattle: it is warfare.”—Alan Redpath

Self-compassion means speaking to yourself the way you would speak to someone you love.

In grief, we can still praise. In fact, worshipping God in the lowest of lows and clinging to Him through it, is sweet perfume to Him and saving grace for us! Whatever you’re going through today, stop and turn your face toward the One who is with you!

When we recall and rehearse God’s faithfulness in the past, we more clearly discern His goodness in the present.

God is faithful and true. He will keep every promise He has made to you. Sometimes we’re in despair. Sometimes we’re frightened. And maybe you’re afraid right now.

God doesn’t hold us responsible for success; He holds us responsible for faithfulness. In that final day, Jesus isn’t going to say, “Well done, good and successful servant.” Instead, He will say, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Take what God has given you and do the best that you can do.

Walking by sight is the natural manner by which human beings walk. This is true both for literal walking, as well as for taking the proverbial journey through life. When engaged in physical walking, people rely upon visual data (along with input from other human senses, like sound, smell, and touch). Likewise, as the unredeemed are engaged in their trek through life, they set their course and proceed by that which their natural abilities provide. We who know the Lord Jesus Christ cannot walk in this manner in His kingdom. We must walk by faith, by depending upon our Lord, His word, and the work of grace by His Holy Spirit. Spiritual progress is made "while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen."

"In Christ, death itself is but a brief interlude before the joyous reunion in eternity. Our tears of sorrow will be replaced by tears of joy!"— A.W. Tozer

Jesus is the source of our faith: "Jesus, the author… of our faith." If we have saving faith in Christ, it was brought into being by Him. Our faith was authored by Jesus in a revelatory and relational manner. He revealed to us the truth we needed to know (through sermons, personal witnesses, tracts, audio tapes, books, Bible reading, or whatever). Then, He invited us into a relationship with Himself.

"In seasons of drought and abundance, our trust in God becomes the defining narrative of our lives."— C.S. Lewis

"The strength of our faith is not determined by how loudly we proclaim it, but by how deeply we live it."— John C. Maxwell

The path of discipleship can only be traveled by faith (by trusting in our unseen Lord). Progress can never be made by sight (by relying upon that which our human senses can gather and process). "We walk by faith, not by sight" (2 Corinthians 5:7). Therefore, it is vital that we understand where we must go for the source of our faith: "Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith" (Hebrews 12:2). Jesus is the source of faith. The Scriptures often expound upon this fundamental truth.

"YOUR PAIN IS GREAT HIS PROMISE IS GREATER."

THERE'S NO NEED TO LOOK BEHIND YOU, GOD'S BEST PLANS FOR YOUR LIFE ARE STILL BEFORE YOU!

The world has fallen so in love with lies that the truth feels like hate.

“Hurt people hurt people.” That doesn’t always have to be the narrative. Sometimes, hurt people make the effort to seek help and healing, become more kind and empathetic, and turn their pain into a ministry of helping others. Hurt people don’t have to be stuck in a cycle of hurting others. Let Jesus be the great cycle-breaker.

There are over 4,200 different world religions, but only one true Gospel. Jesus is still the only Way.

This is what “tolerance” looks like at some of our Universities: You can’t say, “a man isn’t a woman.” But, you can hold protests in support of a terrorist group that rapes women, murders babies, kidnaps children for sex slavery, & kills entire families. Jesus, come quickly.

The first time Jesus came to earth a few people in Bethlehem knew about it. When Jesus comes back every tribe, tongue, and nation will know about it. The first time Jesus came to earth a few wisemen bowed before Him. When Jesus comes back every knee will bow before Him.

It’s okay to pray for peace and justice. God cares about both.

Too many people want Jesus to save them so they can go to Heaven, while also wanting to remain in control of their own life. But, real salvation doesn’t work like that. When Jesus saves your life, He also takes control of your life. He is both Savior and Lord.

PSA: The same people who gossip about others to you are also willing to gossip about you to others.

Watching people trying to justify the actions of Hamas is extremely startling. Lord, help us

This weekend faithful leaders will stand with God’s Word in their hands boldly teaching it to God’s people.

Many of them you’ll never hear about on a podcast, see them on a Conference stage, or read an article about their ministry.

Often, these are the leaders I admire the most.
