It can be confusing when we pay too much attention to the teaching of man versus the Lord. Jesus died so that we might live. His life is a ransom for ours. Once again, remember what Paul teaches, "You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of human beings." Living by the new covenant of grace provides a "relationship-based life," which depends upon God's sufficiency. This results in spiritual liberty.

Think of a deeply rooted tree that is soaking up the nutrients from the soil and growing every day. In the same way, to “remain” or “abide” refers to staying in a given place. It’s staying in fellowship with Jesus.
As we abide, we start sinking our roots deeply into Christ, we will start praying for what God wants us to pray for. That is the objective of prayer. It isn’t getting God to do what we want Him to do. Rather, it’s doing what God wants us to do.
