Under Christ, as the Head, angels are the guardians of the church.
~John Calvin~
“It is better to get lost in the passion than to lose the passion…It is impossible to exist without passion.“—Søren Kierkegaard
“No passion or affection, with which we are born, can be in itself sinful; it becomes so only by willful or careless indulgence.”
Jonathan Mayhew (a seventeenth-century preacher)
Jesus's wisdom flows out of His love, and in turn, guides us and teaches us how to live as a “beloved one.”

Your feelings should never be a gauge of spiritual vitality. God is often most near on my darkest days.

God has a way of preparing us for battles that we have yet to face.
It’s through the trials you’re up against today that He is training you for His purposes in the future.
Luke Lezon
We are precious to Him. In a world where love has grown cold or is missing altogether, where ideals get trampled upon, where hearts are broken, God has reserved a place in His garden for each of us, where we can hear our name called “Beloved.”

It costs something to be a true Christian. Let that never be forgotten ... We must fight an enemy who comes against us with thousands of followers. We must build a tower in troubled times. Our Lord Jesus Christ would have us thoroughly understand this. He bids us “count the cost.”

Be able to discern your Judas from your Peter. Peter had a bad day. Judas had a bad heart. Peter, you restore. Judas you release.
There is no winning without warfare; there is no opportunity without opposition; there is no victory without vigilance.
~Alan Redpath~
Sin has turned the world upside down; the earth has become quite a different thing to man from what it was when God made it to be his habitation.
~Matthew Henry~
If by excessive labor we die before reaching the average age of man, worn out in the Master’s service, then glory be to God. We shall have so much less of earth and so much more of heaven. It is our duty and our privilege to exhaust our lives for Jesus.
~Charles Spurgeon~
Even if we are flat on our backs and unable to work, God is our faithful source.

Criteria for choosing a church: Christ is the primary focus, not you.

We might ask why or how, but the Bible's answer is always "Who". His name is Jesus.

Unlike Joshua and Caleb, the other Israelites followed the Lord's calling out from Egypt, but they did not follow Him into the land. Many Christians repeat this same error today. They have followed the Lord as He led them out of the spiritual death of sin and guilt. They are "out of Egypt." They are forgiven of their sins. They have new life in Christ. However, they do not follow the Lord on "into the land." They do not follow by faith into abundant life. They do not follow the Lord in humble dependence for transformation, for fruitfulness, for a life of spiritual victory.

Lovingkindness is one of the terms in the Old Testament that has profound spiritual kinship with the New Testament term, grace. Lovingkindness speaks of God's zealous love for His people. This love includes His mercy to hold back the judgment we deserve, as well as His goodness to pour out all that we need.

The Lord can fight for His people in an unlimited variety of ways. He can change the hearts of those who oppose us. He can bring their plans to naught. He can trap them in their own evil plans. He can cause our enemies to turn and devour one another. He can effectively save us in any manner that He chooses.

Throughout the Old Testament, we can find examples of people living by the grace of God. They may not have been able to describe their experience in terms of grace. Yet, their reliance upon God to work on their behalf was just as valid as ours. Living by grace is about God at work in people's lives. Even though they may have been born under the law, they could not live by means of the law. The law supplied no resource for life. Without God at work, the only resource is from the flesh, from natural human sufficiency. This has always been inadequate for living as God intended.

whatever He has already accomplished in us is only a part of the whole. Wherever we are in this glorious process, there is some completing work that God desires to do. He wants to bring into our understanding, our character, and our daily experience more of that which is fully ours in Christ.
Bob Hoekstra
God is not looking for "mighty Babylons." He is looking for humble and broken hearts. Jesus clearly taught such truth.
