Quotes

O for a thousand tongues to sing my great Redeemer’s praise, the glories of my God and King, the triumphs of his grace!

Charles Wesley

Alas, if the poor [unconverted] man thinks a sermon long and says of a Sabbath-day, “what a weariness it is!” how miserable would he think it to be engaged in an everlasting Sabbath! —Joseph Alleine

The faith that is so often spoken of in the Scriptures as the great condition of the covenant of grace is, without doubt, our hearty accepting of Christ as our mediator and our whole souls falling in or closing with him as our head and Redeemer and way to the Father.

Jonathan Edwards

Repentance toward God, faith toward our Lord Jesus Christ, the holiness of heart and life, habits of real private prayer, love, and reverence toward God's Word - these are the real proofs of the indwelling of the Holy Spirit in a soul. Where he is, these marks will be seen. -

JC Ryle

There is no grace that is not in Christ, and every grace is in Him in the highest degree... -

I think that the confusion between church and state has been, and still is, one of the greatest obstacles to true evangelism. —

Martyn Lloyd-Jones, Romans, Volume 13: Life in Two Kingdoms, Pg. 103

Measure not God’s love and favor by your own feeling. The sun shines as clearly on the darkest day as it does on the brightest. The difference is not in the sun, but in some clouds which hinder the manifestation of the light thereof. Richard Sibbes

Death is only a grim porter to let us into a stately palace.' —Richard Sibbes

I remember well when the bright young things of the 2000s declared MacArthur a dinosaur. His model was outdated; his ministry style was no longer "relevant." Now it's 2023, and much that was "cutting-edge" and "revolutionary" is gone like mist.

MacArthur and Grace still stand.

The blood of Jesus Christ has set you free from the pain and the penalty of sin. You are as pure as the blood of Jesus Christ can make you, and that means absolutely pure.

“I would rather be what God chose to make me than the most glorious creature I could think of. For to have been thought about—born in God’s thoughts—and then made by God, is the dearest, grandest, most precious thing in all thinking.” -

George MacDonald

God wants you to adjust your thinking to the fact that the promises of prosperity in the Bible apply to you.

"By faith, the godly man casts his care upon God who careth for him, and he walks without carking care because he knows himself to be the child of Heaven’s loving-kindness, for whom all things work together for good." - Charles Spurgeon

Jesus Christ is more than a good man and a good teacher. He is the Son of God Almighty.

The only way the Church can change the world is by preaching Christ. —

John MacArthur

“Leave not off reading the Bible till you find your hearts warmed…Let it not only inform you but inflame you.” -Thomas Watson

We believe in a God who became a man. We believe in the eternal God who died and by dying provided eternal life to those who are dead. - John MacArthur

He a fool, who minds his recreation more than his salvation! ~

Thomas Watson

We believe in a righteous Judge who became a criminal, a Holy God who became the sinner's defense, and we believe in the Just executioner of sinners who became their Savior by taking their execution. - John MacArthur

The New Year is based on resolution, contemplation, and reflection.

He Giveth More Grace

Annie J. Flint

He giveth more grace when the burdens grow greater,

He sendeth more strength when the labors increase;

To added afflictions, He addeth His mercy,

To multiplied trials, His multiplied peace.

When we have exhausted our store of endurance,

When our strength has failed ere the day is half done,

When we reach the end of our hoarded resources

Our Father’s full giving is only begun.

Fear not that thy need shall exceed His provision,

Our God ever yearns His resources to share;

Lean hard on the arm everlasting, availing;

The Father both thee and thy load will upbear.

His love has no limits, His grace has no measure,

His power no boundary known unto men;

For out of His infinite riches in Jesus

He giveth, and giveth, and giveth again.

What God Has Promised Annie J. Flint, bef.1902

  1. God has not promised skies always blue, Flower-strewn pathways all our lives through; God has not promised sun without rain, Joy without sorrow, peace without pain.

    • Refrain: But God has promised strength for the day, Rest for the labor, light for the way, Grace for the trials, help from above, Unfailing kindness, undying love. God has not promised we shall not know Toil and temptation, trouble and woe; He has not told us we shall not bear Many a burden, many a care. God has not promised smooth roads and wide, Swift, easy travel, needing no guide; Never a mountain rocky and steep, Never a river turbid and deep.

Dr. Phil proclaimed, “The way to achieve inner peace is to finish all the things you have started and have never finished.”

So, I looked around my house the man said to see all the things I started and hadn’t finished, and before leaving the house this morning, I finished off a bottle of Merlot, a bottle of Zinfandel, a bottle of Bailey’s Irish Cream, a bottle of Kahlua, a package of Oreos, the remainder of my old Prozac prescription, the rest of the cheesecake, some Doritos, and a box of chocolates.

You have no idea how freaking good I feel right now.

Ha! Humor is important. Completions can help but apart from God, peace is superficial and you will always want something else. It's temporal.
