What is true determines the rest: what is honorable, just, pure, lovely, and commendable.
John MacArthur says that people in today’s culture no longer ask if something is true. “Truth [to them] is whatever works and produces positive emotions.”
When the truth is left out, there is no standard.

Sometimes I regret the day I first tasted ice cream. Why? Because I developed a taste for it that is now difficult to control. Especially when I'm trying to shed unwanted pounds. Certainly ice cream isn't evil, but evil can be a lot like ice cream. Once we've experienced it, it can become a "taste" we've refined, that then needs to be resisted.
