Praying for the Fullness of the Spirit

Updated: Mar 26, 2023

"And I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened…your heavenly Father [will] give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!"

(Luke 11:9-10, 13)

The work of the Spirit in our lives is associated with prayer. Prayer is that wonderful God-ordained means of relating to the Lord in humility and faith (the two means by which we access grace).

In praying, we are humbly admitting that we need God.

We can’t do it on our own.

The Holy Spirit is our helper and apart from Him, we can do nothing.

The Holy Spirit is part of the trinity, so, to please Him we have to die to self, willing to cast off pride.

In praying, we are exercising faith toward God that He will act on our behalf.

Scripture tells us to ask, seek and knock

Mat 7:7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

Scripture further tells us if we ask anything in His name and according to His will, He hears us

1 John 5:14

We pray; God moves by His Spirit, pouring out whatever grace is necessary for any given situation.

We are all different in our walks and relationship with the Lord. Our relationship is personal.

No two people walk alike.

Take Moses for instants when God told Him to talk to the rock and Moses beat the rock.

His chastisement was harsh being kept out of the promised land only being able to see it from afar off.

It is our responsibility to be obedient.

We know when we are not obedient, we are chastised and separated from God.

Just as He did with the children of Israel in the wilderness.

When they were obedient ~

Exodus 14:13-14 13 And Moses said to the people, “Do not be afraid. Standstill, and see the salvation of the Lord, which He will accomplish for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall see again no more forever. 14 The Lord will fight for you, and you shall hold[a] your peace.”

(Ephesians 3:16-19). "That He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory,

to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, 17 that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height— 19 to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

This is the second prayer in Ephesians the first was in chapter one.

So, as we look at this we see that Paul says that God grants you according to the riches of His glory.

What you do see is:

To be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man,

When your inner man is strengthened, you become fervent in the things of God all the time. You'll love to pray and praise God; studying the Word will become an ...

Man is a spirit and he dwells in a body. That spirit or inner man is the real you. As the body or outward man can be weak, so can the inner man be weak if not properly nurtured spiritually.

Your inner man must be strengthened with might.

What food is to the body the word is to the Spirit?

That Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith.

Matthew 17:20 So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move, and nothing will be impossible for you.

Mustard seed faith comes when we live out the word in obedience.

being rooted and grounded in love

Agape Love

That you may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height?

The Cross

To know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

I Corinthians 8:1-3 1 Now concerning things offered to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love edifies. 2 And if anyone thinks that he knows anything, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know. 3 But if anyone loves God, this one is known by Him.

This is a spirit-led man,

Prayer was the avenue to being filled with the bountiful work of the Spirit in our lives. We humbly ask;

The Lord faithfully works.

You can't live on yesterday's filling of the Holy Spirit. What you got yesterday was meant for yesterday. The Holy Spirit wants to fill you each and every day. -

Make it a priority to spend time alone with God!

John Calvin - Prayer doesn’t change things - God changes things in answer to prayer.

When we pause to pray... We step from the doorway of discouragement to the pathway of peace. We trade worry for worship. We magnify God and become less intimidated by our problems. Yes, I want less of my brain power and more of His prayer power in my life.
