One Way

Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. – Romans 10:13

Today, many religions take the attitude that “there is no such thing as a free lunch” and place the responsibility for acquiring salvation, at least in part, on the individual seeking it. They teach that you must work to obtain a place in paradise…the more good works, the better the place.

If that were the case, why did God send His only begotten Son to Earth… the glory of the Lord confined to this small body of a baby? It would seem a waste for Jesus to give up all the magnificence of Heaven to come to Earth if humanity could help in the salvation endeavor.

That is why Paul, in today’s verse, proclaims, along with the Old Testament prophet Joel, that salvation is available through faith… to “everyone who calls on the name of the Lord” (Joel 2:32).

Jesus Christ was the sinless baby born of Mary. He grew up in a world where He would know your trials, know your desires, and know the pressures of your life. He was the God-Man who took the punishment for your sins upon Himself, satisfying the debt in a way nothing else could.

Salvation comes through faith in Jesus Christ. “If you confess with your heart that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes and is justified, and with the mouth, one confesses and is saved” (Romans 10:9-10).

The simple way of salvation is hard for many to accept… but it is the only way. It is God’s message of grace and hope. Faith transcends any limitation of self-effort.

Pray that this message permeates the hearts of men and women this Christmas season.
