And Moses called… every craftsman in whose mind the Lord had put skill, every one whose heart stirred him up to come to do the work. – Exodus 36:2
In the Old Testament, God gave Moses the plans for building a tent of worship to carry with them on their way from Egypt to their new permanent home in a promised land. The Lord gave very specific instructions for the work and told Moses to call out for the workers.
Bezalel, a skilled man, was chosen to lead. He inspired and instructed others, enabling an entire corps of workmen to produce exactly what God designed. As you study the construction of that Old Testament tabernacle, you will find amazing examples of God providing everything necessary to accomplish His directions. But, before any of those miracles happened, the most important event in the whole story quietly took place. In Exodus chapter 31, God called a man named Bezalel and filled him “with the Spirit of God, with ability and intelligence” (v. 3).
You are called, as a follower of Christ, to be a craftsman skilled in the art of living a life that honors God! While it may sound like a colossal task (and it is!) like Bezalel, first you must be filled with God’s Spirit enabling the work, then He will provide everything you need. You will be led “to know wisdom and instruction, to understand words of insight, to receive instruction in wise dealing” (Proverbs 1:1). Dedicate yourself to living the life God intends, lean into His Spirit, and marvel at His beautiful design.
