“One of illegitimate birth shall not enter the assembly of the LORD; even to the tenth generation none of his descendants shall enter the assembly of the LORD.”
Deuteronomy 23:2
In verse 2 of Deuteronomy 23, Moses continued with the list of people who were excluded from entering into the house of the Lord. All the children born out of wedlock were the next group. Not just the person born out of wedlock, but all their family for ten generations. How great the sin was before God!
Imagine being a child out of wedlock. You could not come into the house of the Lord; you could not come to church. It was forbidden by God. Why? Because we have to remember one thing—God is holy. We cannot bring sin into His house, into His assembly. Those who were born out of wedlock were a product of sin.
How heavy the judgment was on the child born of adulterous or fornicating men and women. And the judgment went on for ten generations. Think about it! Think about all the children born out of wedlock today, and our society thinks it is all cool. Wow, again I thank God for His grace. The sin is on the parents, not the child. Repentance must come from the parents.
We are an imperfect people in an imperfect world, but God gave us a picture of perfection, a picture of what the real body of Christ should be like. It should be like a pure bride.
None of us are pure on our own, but we do know what is right and wrong, through God’s Word.
