Human Emotions

Gal.5:19 Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, 21 envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentlenesses, self-control. Against such, there is no law. 24 And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. 26 Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

Two types of Human Emotions

Researchers on emotions mostly agree on the existence of two types of human emotions:

Primary emotions.

Secondary emotions.

A primary human emotion type is the one triggered in response to an event, for example: Anger.

Secondary human emotion types are the group of emotions that follow those types of emotions.

If we experience fear, the secondary emotions would be: feeling threatened or anger, depending on the situation we are experiencing.

William James for example considers primary human emotions types as love, fear, grief, and rage. On the other hand, Robert Plutchik considers types of human emotions as fear, anger, disgust, sadness, surprise, acceptance, and joy in this category.

Below is a list of types of human emotions. I have included both positive and negative types.

Here is the list of emotions:

I have learned and seen that in the morning, depending on the person, positive and negative emotions can be present.

Hopefully, as we grow in the Lord we lean on His word and the positive emotions are present.

Dr. James Dobson, who authored the book Emotions Can You Trust Them, says “ The answer to the question is an emphatic no! He goes on to say that our feelings are unreliable in times of crises when God is not the head and put first”.

Jay Adams writes in his book, Christian Living in the World, “says,

The world is always with you, around you, and within you. So it is incumbent upon you as a Christian to understand what the world is, how God expects you to relate to it, and what He has provided for you to be able to do so successfully”.

In that statement alone we can do a bible study but the question is who or what are we leaning on?

The bible says there are three types of people in the world the carnal man, the natural man, and the Spiritual man.

1Cor.2:13 These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual. 14 But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them because they are spiritually discerned. 15 But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he is rightly judged by no one. 16 For “who has known the mind of the LORD that he may instruct Him?” But we have the mind of Christ.

Romans 8:7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. 8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.

As I watch people more and more it is not what they do it is what they say that gives them away, which most of the time is in direct relation to how they feel. Change your feelings and your emotions will change and as they change so will your actions to life's stuff. Give up the here and now for what's ahead in Jesus's name.

Gal.5:16 I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. 17 For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another so that you do not do the things that you wish. 18 But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.

Friends if you are led by the Spirit you will be in unity with the will of God, so

look ahead. Phil:3:13-14
