God Breathed

All Scripture is breathed out by God and is profitable for teaching, reproof, correction, and for training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be competent, and equipped for every good work. – 2 Timothy 3:16-17

A person devoted to God will also be devoted to His Word, the Bible, in learning and in teaching. Today’s verse shows how the believer’s life can be more effective by studying His Word. First, confidence must be placed in the reliability of the Scriptures, that they are “God-breathed” or inspired. They are profitable for teaching and should be taught to students and families. Many Bible studies available today can help parents and teachers pass on Scriptural truths to their children and students.

The Word of God is like a mirror, revealing what is good in your life or what needs to be changed. God’s correction, displayed in the Bible, is a good thing. It keeps you safe on His path and helps you to avoid dangerous alternatives. “For the Word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12).

As today’s verse encourages, the benefits of Bible study include becoming equipped and competent in the good works of helping others, by using individual gifts, talents, and resources. Devotion to quality study is an important aspect of maturing into the calling of Christ.

As you pray for the country today, pray that believers will develop a hunger for God’s Word to the point of affecting the nation as a whole. As Scripture saturates the thoughts and hearts of Christians it will spill over into their actions and behavior, influencing others to the glory of the Lord.
