Get Real!

The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.

Psalm 145:18

You have probably heard the phrase, “Get real!” You may have heard it when someone was talking about impossible dreams. Or perhaps directed toward a mom who does not believe her little angel could cause mischief. Or you might have thought “Get real!” when you listen to the news or political discussions.

God in Heaven wants His people to “get real.” His desire is for hearts to be yielded to Him so that people behave in loving ways in the privacy of the home and not just put on an act at church or at work. He longs for believers to live out for the rest of their lives during the week the truths they hear in worship on the weekend. He yearns for those who worship Him to lay aside the distractions of events and relational challenges, to be fully attuned to His Spirit.

Today’s verse promises that God is near to those who call on Him with honest hearts. Being honest with God is reflected by what is seen and heard on the outside lining up with a grateful, worshipful, humble heart on the inside. In your prayer time today, be open with God. Express your feelings, your questions, and your doubts, asking Him for help. Jesus commended the disreputable tax collector who prayed for mercy but condemned the religious Pharisees who thought he was better than others. Compared to the Lord’s holiness, everyone falls short. As you humbly draw near to God, be confident that He is drawing near to you.
