FOOD FOR THOUGHT

“…I have treasured the words of His mouth more than my necessary food.”

Job 23:12

I don’t know about you, but if I fail to grab a bite to eat in the morning, my whole system seems to run a little off. For good reason, breakfast has been called the most important meal of the day.

We need to eat right to go about our business with vigor.

The New England Journal of Medicine once ran an article publicly announcing what has since become common knowledge. It said that Americans are the most overweight people in the world. On average, we tote around more fat than any other earthling. Couple being the most overweight with being the least physically active, and it’s no wonder that we hold the world’s record for heart attacks and cardiovascular disease.

What if we were to change our diet? What if we agreed to put nothing in our mouths until we ate a spiritual meal first thing in the morning? How about snacking on verses from Proverbs throughout the day instead of grabbing chips or a cookie?

Our souls need food—just as much as our bodies—but soul food can only come from the Bible.

The good news is that the more we eat of it, the healthier we’ll be. In fact, with such a diet, our hearts will become more robust and active. Our weight will be measured in depth and not girth.

We will then be more inclined to help others gain spiritual health.

Let’s resolve to eat up the Word of God together. Bon appetit!

Awaiting His Return,
