FACING FIERY ORDEALS Daniel 3

DAN 3:8-27

Daniel’s Friends Disobey the King

8 Therefore at that time certain Chaldeans came forward and accused the Jews. 9 They spoke and said to King Nebuchadnezzar, “O king, live forever! 10 You, O king, have made a decree that everyone who hears the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, shall fall down and worship the gold image; 11 and whoever does not fall down and worship shall be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. 12 There are certain Jews whom you have set over the affairs of the province of Babylon: Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego; these men, O king, have not paid due regard to you. They do not serve your gods or worship the gold image which you have set up.”

13 Then Nebuchadnezzar, in rage and fury, gave the command to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. So they brought these men before the king. 14 Nebuchadnezzar spoke, saying to them, “Is it true, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, that you do not serve my gods or worship the gold image which I have set up? 15 Now if you are ready at the time you hear the sound of the horn, flute, harp, lyre, and psaltery, in symphony with all kinds of music, and you fall down and worship the image which I have made, good! But if you do not worship, you shall be cast immediately into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. And who is the god who will deliver you from my hands?”

16 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego answered and said to the king, “O Nebuchadnezzar, we have no need to answer you in this matter. 17 If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king. 18 But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.”

Saved in Fiery Trial

19 Then Nebuchadnezzar was full of fury, and the expression on his face changed toward Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. He spoke and commanded that they heat the furnace seven times more than it was usually heated. 20 And he commanded certain mighty men of valor who were in his army to bind Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, and cast them into the burning fiery furnace. 21 Then these men were bound in their coats, their trousers, their turbans, and their other garments, and were cast into the midst of the burning fiery furnace. 22 Therefore, because the king’s command was urgent, and the furnace exceedingly hot, the flame of the fire killed those men who took up Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego. 23 And these three men, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, fell down bound into the midst of the burning fiery furnace.

24 Then King Nebuchadnezzar was astonished; and he rose in haste and spoke, saying to his counselors, “Did we not cast three men bound into the midst of the fire?”

They answered and said to the king, “True, O king.”

25 “Look!” he answered, “I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God.”

Nebuchadnezzar Praises God

26 Then Nebuchadnezzar went near the mouth of the burning fiery furnace and spoke, saying, “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego, servants of the Most High God, come out, and come here.” Then Shadrach, Meshach, and Abed-Nego came from the midst of the fire. 27 And the satraps, administrators, governors, and the king’s counselors gathered together, and they saw these men on whose bodies the fire had no power; the hair of their head was not singed nor were their garments affected, and the smell of fire was not on them.

Memory Verse Dan 3:17 NIV.

17 If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us from Your Majesty’s hand.

Dan 3:17 NKJV.

17 If that is the case, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us from your hand, O king.

What Does God’s Word Say:

If We: Speaks to the group-

Thrown: to propel through the air by a forward motion of the hand and arm like throwing a baseball-

Blazing Furnace: burning very brightly and intensely an enclosed structure in which heat is produced (as for heating a house or for reducing ore) –

GOD: God Almighty-

Serve: to be a servant-

is able: To prevail-

deliver us: Set free the group

he will: definite articles describing total faith in God that He absolutely will do it. –

will deliver us: God will set them free. -

Your Majesty’s: Your king’s-

Hand: Speaks to the king’s hands as power-

WHAT DOES GOD’S WORD MEAN-

If we are thrown into the blazing furnace God almighty whom we are servants to will set us free from the furnace and God will do it and set us free from your king’s power.

WHAT DOES GOD’S WORD MEAN TO ME-

God is able as we trust Him by faith.

WHAT WILL I DO TO LIVE IT OUT-

Put my faith in God no matter the circumstances knowing the outcome is His will for me.

This verse speaks to The Sovereignty of God as well it is not saying God does everything we say or to jump when we say jump.

Reflection: Many times, when coming close to death and I know God delivered me. To Him showing me his grace when I should have been fired and was just reprimanded.

Exploration

1. They did not bow down to the image.

2. He was in Rage

3. They said they had no need to answer the king on the matter if that is the case then they said their God would deliver them from the furnace and from his hands.

4. They understood God is sovereign, not my will but thy will be done.

5. He looked in to see 4 loosed and the 4th was like God.

6. The fourth man in the fire was Jesus Christ Himself. He joins us in the trials of our life. This is a theophany=

a visible manifestation to humankind of God.

Reaction:

7. Ministering angels are noteworthy not only because of the help provided to followers of Christ but also because it displays God’s care. Angels are not the ones who deserve glory because they are merely obeying God and serving Him by helping Christians. In the Bible, angels are described as “ministering spirits” who serve believers (Hebrews 1:14). Daniel 3 reinforces this and increases our faith.

8. He will join me in them but further He also makes a way of escape from my temptation so as to be able to overcome them. No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation, he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it (1 Corinthians 10:13).

9. Isaiah 55:8-9 8 “For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. 9 “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, And My thoughts than your thoughts.

10. He sees me through it to victory.

11. James 1:2-4: Profiting from Trials

2 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.

Trials produce patience which brings us to completion and so, we lack nothing in Christ.

12. Sharing personal experiences and the word of God.
