And so, from the day we heard, we have not ceased to pray for you, asking that you may be filled with the knowledge of his will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding. – Colossians 1:9
Knowledge without a sense of how to apply it seems a bit of a waste, doesn’t it?
Thomas Savery is recognized as the inventor of the first steam-powered device. Thomas Newcomen took the invention further to build a steam engine that could transmit continuous power. James Watt took it to even greater heights as he increased the power generated by the steam in the engine.
All these led to advances in the Industrial Revolution.
The follower of Christ is empowered by the Holy Spirit. While His power is equally strong and accessible to each of God’s children, believers vary in their awareness, connection, and utilization of it.
Some may barely realize that He is present and available.
Others will rely on His power occasionally or when they think they need some help.
Those who call upon the Holy Spirit for help every day in every way benefit the most.
They are the ones who take the time to pray and seek Him through studying God’s Word. Dedicated time will reap new revelations of who God is, and it will reveal more of His will for your life.
Matthew Henry wrote that “the knowledge of our duty is the best. A mere empty notion of the greatest truths is insignificant. Our knowledge of the will of God must be always practical: we must know it, to do it.”
When you spend time in His Word and prayer, you can apply what you learn to practical, wise steps in your life.
Let the Spirit of God empower you today and every day. Internalize God’s Word and pray for His wisdom in your life.
